Ministry official pleads guilty in landfill scandal
Interior ministry official Christakis Petrou on Wednesday pled guilty to taking kickbacks by waste-management company Helector Cyprus.
Petrou is the third defendant in the bribery scandal involving the awarding of contracts for the Paphos and Koshi landfills to plead guilty, following former Paphos mayor Savvas Vergas and Helector’s former CEO Demetris Giannakopoulos.

The tourism market is headed for another bumper year, with current data and trends suggesting arrivals will top the record 3.2 million visitors in 2016, MPs heard on Tuesday.
During a discussion of the market’s prospects in parliament, Marinos Menelaou, acting director-general of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) said there has been a 13.5 per cent increase in arrivals during the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same period last year.

Donald Trump snubs White House Correspondents dinner
Donald Trump has just become the first president in 36 years to miss the annual White House Correspondents dinner. The last time a sitting president missed the dinner was in 1981 when Ronald Reagan didn't attend because he was recovering from a gunshot injury, but he did call into the event via video feed.
